Meal times provide SCR members with a valuable opportunity for fellowship, friendship, and the exchange of ideas in a relaxed environment. Meals are available through the servery and are taken at High Table in the main Dining Hall.
Regular Formal Dinners are held at which members of this and other universities are entitled to wear an academic gown. A number of gowns are available in the SCR for the use of members.
Members are encouraged to gather in the SCR before meals, especially at formal meals where drinks are provided.
Formals need to be booked and paid for at the latest a week before via the appropriate link available in the calendar and weekly newsletter (this form includes booking and payment).
Formals are usually organised by the JCR and MCR on behalf of the College, and are attended by the SCR sitting at High Table. They take place throughout term, but usually on a Thursday evening. Drinks are served in the SCR before dinner.
A three course service dinner is followed by cheese and coffee in the SCR.
Time: usually 6:45 to 7:15pm
Price: as advertised by the secretary and booking link. Members can opt to pay for wine in the booking form, and soft drinks provided gratis by the SCR.
Dress code: gown jacket and tie for men and the equivalent for women (see events calendar and booking form for details).
Guest nights are normally held termly, providing a good opportunity for members to bring guests into college. The format of these varies: some are in the Pennington Suite, others at High Table, and others mixed with members of the JCR and MCR. Details of the timing, menu, dress code, booking arrangements and price are advertised in advance and bookings must be made no more than a week before.

Please use the booking form below to indicate that you are coming to a lunch or dinner (which is not a formal). Unlike formals, payment is made on the day via PDQ.
